Size Guide

Choose the perfect size kimono!
A well-fitting kimono enhances comfort and elegance.
Unlike Western clothing, kimonos have strict proportions that must be adhered to in order to preserve their traditional beauty.
By choosing the right size, you can ensure that you look good.

Height

How to choose a kimono the traditional way

What is the ideal length of a kimono?
The length of the kimono should ideally be the same as your height or slightly longer.
This allows you to create the traditional fold at the waist, called "ohashori."
For example, if you are 165cm tall, you should choose a kimono that is close to that length or a little longer.

Modern style options

If the length of the kimono is about 30cm shorter than your height, you can wear it without the hem, which will give you a more modern look.
This method has become increasingly popular in recent years and was originally used as a traditional way for men to wear kimonos.

width

When choosing your kimono size, the following formula will help you to get a good idea:

Hip size = front width + (back width x 2) + 13cm

For example, if the front width is 25cm and the back width is 30cm, the calculation is:
25cm + (30cm × 2) + 13cm = 98cm
In this case, the size would be suitable for someone with a hip measurement of approximately 98 cm.

This method is a guideline based on the width of the kimono (the total width of the front and back). Don't be too strict about it, just use it as a rough guide.

Sleeve length

How to measure sleeve length

Measure the length from the base of your neck to your wrist. When doing this, make sure your torso and arms are at a 45 degree angle (see diagram).
